NON-IMMIGRANT VISA “O”
(OTHER PURPOSES)

1. ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS FOR O VISA

This type of visa is issued to applicants who wish to enter Thailand for the following purposes:

  1. to stay after retirement for the elderly (aged 50 years or above) (allowed from 11 November 2020 – single entry only)
  2. to stay with the family (spouse, children, adopted child) (allowed – single entry only)
  3. to receive medical treatment (allowed – single entry only)
  4. to perform duties for the state enterprise or volunteer with social welfare organizations (currently not allowed)
  5. to be a sport coach as required by Thai Government (allowed on a case-by-case basis)
  6. to be a contestant or witness for the judicial process (currently not allowed)
  7. to visit Thailand (applicable to only those who ever hold Thai nationality before) (allowed, as part of (2) – single entry only)

2. O VISA CONDITIONS

2.1 At present, O Visa is valid for a single entry only.

2.2 O Visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. Travellers must enter Thailand within the said 90-day period. They will be allowed to stay in Thailand for a period of up to 90 days, counting from the date of entry. During the 90-day period of stay, if they wish to leave and re-enter Thailand, they are required to apply for a re-entry permit (single or multiple) before departure. If they leave Thailand without a re-entry permit, the current stay permit shall be considered void.

2.3 Extention of visa is possible. Those qualified may obtain an additional one-year stay permit, counting from the date of entry to Thailand. The extension of stay is at the discretion of the immigration officer. Extension application can be made at the Office of Immigration Bureau. Please visit www.immigration.go.th for more information)

2.4 If the O Visa holder breaches the entry conditions, the stay permit will be revoked and he/she will be prohibited from entering Thailand in the future.

3. O VISA APPLICATION PROCEDURES

3.1 PREPARE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS AS FOLLOWS:

  1. Completed application form – to download CLICK HERE
  2. Passport with two empty pages and at least six months validity
  3. One recent passport-sized photograph (4×6 cm), taken within the past six months
  4. Copy of registration of residency of Austria, Slovakia or Slovenia if you are not a citizen of Austria, Slovakia or Slovenia
  5. Visa processing fee: 70 Euro (single entry) (in cash only / non-refundable)
  6. Other required documents as determined by the purposes of entry as follows:
  • For retirees aged 50 and over (“O” Retirement):
    • Proof of monthly income, e.g. retirement pension, interest earning or dividends, etc. of not less than €1,000 per month for single-entry
    • If the pension is lower than required, a copy of bankbook with the remaining balance of at least €5,000
    • Health insurance policy document for the entire intended period of stay in Thailand with the following coverage:
      • Outpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 40,000 THB or 1,300 EUR, and
      • Inpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 400,000 THB or 13,000 EUR.
      • NOTE: Health insurance policy document submitted for “O – Retirement” Visa application may also be used for COE application *only if* the insurance expressly covers COVID-19 with minimum coverage of 100,000 USD. If the insurance used for “O – Retirement” Visa application does not expressly covers COVID-19 with the required minimum coverage, the applicants must purchase an additional health insurance for their COE application (see further information on COE application below).
  • For those who need to stay with family residing or working in Thailand:
    • Evidence of adequate finance (20,000 THB per person and 40,000 THB per family)
    • In case the family member is non-Thai: copy of the visa or work permit of a spouse, parent, or child who is currently residing or working in Thailand
    • In case the family member is Thai: proof of Thai nationality of family member (copy of passport, ID card or household registration certificate)
    • Proof of family relationship, e.g. copy of marriage certificate or birth certificate, registration of legitimate child, household registration certificate, adoption certificate, or other evidence issued by the competent authorities or government agency
    • Additional document required for those who are married to Thai nationals: proof of income, either party or both must have a total income of not less than 1,000 EUR per month. If the non-Thai antional does not have the said minimum income, he/she must provide proof of an account deposit in Thailand in the name of either party or both of not less than 400,000 THB for the previous 3 months.
  • For those who will receive medical treatment or look after a patient:
    • Evidence of adequate finance (20,000 THB per person and 40,000 THB per family)
    • Confirmation letter and request from the physician responsible for the treatment
    • In case of looking after a patient, confirmation and request has been made by the physician responsible for the treatment
  • For those who perform duties for the state enterprise or volunteer (unpaid) with social welfare organizations (Public Charity organizations) (CURRENTLY NOT ALLOWED)
    • Evidence of adequate finance (20,000 THB per person and 40,000 THB per family)
    • Confirmation letter and request from head or the authorized officer of that organization
    • Confirmation letter from the organization addressed to the Royal Thai Embassy
    • Copy of operation license issued by the competent authority
    • Proof of the applicant’s education and work experience
  • For those who will be a contestant or witness for the judicial process (CURRENTLY NOT ALLOWED)
    • Evidence of adequate finance (20,000 THB per person and 40,000 THB per family)
    • Proof of involvement in litigation or judicial proceedings as complainant, the aggrieved party, accused, plaintiff, defendant
    • Confirmation letter from the inquiry officer in charge of the case or official letter or document from the authority concerned indicating that the applicant is involved in a case judicial proceeding

3.2 MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO SUBMIT THE ABOVE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS IN PERSON WITH THE ROYAL THAI EMBASSY IN VIENNA

  • Please note that it is not possible to apply for the visa via post. All postal applications will be rejected.
  • Applicants residing in Slovakia and Slovenia may submit their O (single entry) Visa applications with the Royal Thai Honorary Consulate-General in Bratislava and the Royal Thai Honorary Consulate-General in Ljubljana, respectively. The Royal Thai Honorary Consulates in Austria may also receive O (single entry) Visa applications from applicants residing in their respective areas. Please contact the respective honorary consulates directly for more information.

4. O VISA PROCESSING TIME

  • Visa processing time is usually 3 days.
  • Certain applications which require special consideration may take longer to process.
  • Successful applicants may collect their passports at the Embassy or choose to have their passports sent to them via post (if this option is chosen, an envelop and postage fee must be provided upon application submission).

5. REMARKS

  • Documents in foreign languages must be translated into Thai or into English.
  • In the absence of a required document, a letter explaining the unavailability of such document must be provided.
  • Consular officers reserve the right to request additional documents as deemed necessary.
  • Visa processing fee is subject to change without prior notice.
  • Nationals of certain countries are required to apply for a visa only at the Thai Embassy or Consulate-General in their home/residence country or at the designated Thai Embassy.
  • The applicants must provide genuine documents and information. If the applicants provide fraudulent documents or false information, their applications will be rejected and they may be prohibited from entering Thailand in the future

6. OTHER ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: CERTIFICATE OF ENTRY & OTHER DOCUMENTS

 

  • Upon receiving O Visa, the travellers must apply for the Certificate of Entry (COE). Without the COE, travellers will be refused entry to Thailand even if they hold valid visas. For more information on Thailand’s entry regulations, please visit www.thaiembassy.at/en/coe.
  • O Visa holders must prepare the following required documents to apply for COE online (APPLY HERE: https://coethailand.mfa.go.th/)
    • For pre-approval stage (Registration):
      • Copy of passport
      • Copy of valid “O-retirement” Visa (or copy of re-entry permit clearly marked with “Retirement” by Thai Immigration Officer)
      • Health insurance which expressly covers medical treatment expenditures of COVID-19, with minimum coverage of USD 100,000 during the entire stay in Thailand. Travellers are advised to purchase their health insurance which meets Thailand’s entry criteria here: http://covid19.tgia.org/
      • In case of those visiting family in Thailand: proof of family status (e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificate) & other documents as indicated on the COE application platform for respective categories of exempted Thai nationals
      • Those with existing re-entry permit marked “Retirement” issued before 11 November 2020 by the Thai Immigration Office are required to purchase additional health insurance policy and upload it on the COE application platform during the pre-approval (registration) stage. The insurance must statisfy the following conditions:
        • Outpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 40,000 THB or 1,300 EUR, and
        • Inpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 400,000 THB or 13,000 EUR.
        • NOTE: This is different from COVID-19 health insurance. Applicants may submit one insurance policy *only if* that policy meets BOTH the general outpatient/inpatient benefit requirement AND expressly covers COVID-19 with minimum coverage of 100,000 USD. Insurance that covers COVID-19 alone must be supplemented by additional insurance that meets the above general outpatient/inpatient benefit requirement.
    • For final approval stage (Confirmation):
      • Flight confirmation
      • Confirmation of Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) hotel booking for a minimum of 15 nights, starting from the date of the arrival in Thailand.       • For those seeking medical treatment, instead of ASQ confirmation, they need “Alternative Hospital Quarantine – AHQ” Confirmation.   • At check-in and upon arrival in Thailand, all travellers are required to present the following documents:
    • COE
    • Valid visa / re-entry permit
    • Fit to Fly Health Certificate issued no more than 72 hours before departure time
    • Medical Certificate with a laboratory result indicating that COVID-19 is not detected, using RT-PCR method, which has been certified or issued no more than 72 hours before departure time
    • Health insurance which meets the entry requirement & ASQ (or AHQ) hotel confirmation
